Commissioner Megerle continues a family tradition of public service

Steve Megerle, Covington City Commissioner

Going as far back as the 1920s, a relative of Steve's has been active in public service. Joseph Megerle served as a City Commissioner during the mid 1920s and began the family tradition of service to Covington. Steve's grandmother, Marietta worked at Covington City Hall for over twenty years in several city departments. She also volunteered with the Covington City Employees Credit Union for nearly four decades. Steve's dad, Stephen, also served Covington as a city police officer during the 1970's before obtaining his law degree. Steve's uncle, Tim Mauntel served a term as a Lakeside Park City Councilman, a member of the Kentucky Lottery Commission, and most recently served on Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear's transition team. Steve's godmother and great aunt, Claire Moriconi served as Mayor of Crescent Springs. Finally, Steve's cousin Chris Moriconi is the Mayor of Independence.

Steve grew up in Latonia on West 32nd Street before his family moved to Edgewood and Villa Hills. Steve attended Covington Catholic High School and was active in student government and served as President of his senior class. He then shuffled up to Buffalo, New York to attend Canisius College, one of the 28 Jesuit colleges trumpeted as an institution "where leaders are made." Steve received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and History with honors. He was also active in his college fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon, and served a stint as chapter president.

Steve attended Ohio Northern University Law School on scholarship. While in law school he honed his skills to not master every topic, but ask the right questions to help find the answer and achieve the best result. He also had the privilege of serving as an extern to United States District Judge David Bunning and Magistrate Judge J. Gregory Wehrman.

Commissioner Megerle works as an attorney in Covington. He works with his father and is General Counsel for Tanner Custom Homes, a custom builder with several projects underway in Greater Cincinnati.

Steve is involved in numerous non-profit entities including the Railway Exposition Company, the Railroad Museum in Covington and the 216 Foundation, a 501(c)(3) promoting juvenile diabetes research.

Commissioner Megerle is also a member of the Latonia Business Association, Legacy, the West Latonia Neighborhood Association, and has volunteered on several political campaigns.

Commissioner Megerle is working for today and fighting for tomorrow.
